FAQ’S FOR GRACE MARRIAGE AT DCC
Grace Marriage is an exciting ministry designed to enrich, protect, and grow your marriage. Using Biblical, grace-based materials you will have time to talk with your spouse and explore ways to enrich your relationship. Grace Marriage is an intentional commitment to grow in your relationship with each other and the Lord.
Four times a year husbands and wives meet with other couples in various stages of life to explore different aspects of marriage. The sessions are called marriage coaching. Marriage coaching is an intentional and proactive approach to re-focus on positives in your relationship. Marriage coaching is not a lecture. It is not marriage counseling or group therapy. It is not a seminar or conference. It is not a place where you will be forced to share your deepest secrets. Quite simply, it is a Biblically-based marriage maintenance model that can revolutionize your relationship. Couples in their 20s to couples in their 80s are involved in Grace Marriage and have been greatly blessed by participating!
Who can attend?
Any married male and female couple may attend. A couple does not have to be a member of our church to participate. You are welcome to invite family, friends, or neighbors whom you think might benefit from participating in this ministry.
When are the sessions held?
The 2018 coaching dates are January 20th, April 28th, August 18th, and November 17th. Sessions will be held at the Donelson Church of Christ building from 1:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Dinner is included. Participation requires making a commitment to attend all four sessions.
Make-up sessions will be available for those unable to attend a regular session due to extenuating circumstances. Please indicate on your registration form if you anticipate needing a make-up session.
Who will we be with?
You will be in a group with your spouse as well as other couples who want their marriage to grow. Ten couples, plus a trained facilitator couple, will walk through the day’s material together. Spouses will have personal time together throughout the day to privately discuss the topics addressed. Groups will have mixed ages. Newly marrieds as well as couples who have been married for decades will be involved. Remember, Grace Marriage is about spending time with your spouse, not about being with close friends. Although you will get to know others in your group better, the purpose is to spend time with your husband/wife and focus on your marriage.
What about childcare?
Coaching days last 6 ½ hours. That is a long time for children to be at the church building, even if they have activities. We believe that most children would be happier in their own home or with family/friends they know. We also want to give couples freedom to focus on each other without feeling the need to check on the kids if they are just down the hallway. For these reasons childcare will not be offered. While childcare is not being provided at the building, a fund is available for those who could use assistance with some of the cost of childcare. Contact Russ for information. Consider the coaching days as an extended date – time for just the two of you.
What does it cost?
What does a normal date night cost if you go out to eat and see a movie, or if you go to a ballgame or concert? $75? $100? More? The cost for four days of marriage coaching, including all materials, snacks, and dinner is just $349 per couple for the year. That is less than $1 a day for a year. We encourage you to consider your participation fee as an investment in your marriage. What a great Christmas, birthday, or anniversary gift.
How do we sign up?
Go online at donelsonchurch.org and click on the “Grace Marriage” bar at the bottom of the home page. You may also sign up in the Generations Lobby.
How do we pay?
You may pay on the church website or by check at the Grace Marriage signup table.
A non-refundable fee of $175 is due upon signing, and the balance is due by January 19, 2018. An “early bird” discounted rate of $325 is offered if paid in full by December 10. Please see Russ if you need to spread the fee beyond more than two payments. If you have the financial means and the desire to help, any money collected above the $349 per couple fee will go toward assisting others.
Is there a deadline?
Yes. Participants must be registered by Sunday, December 10, 2017 so we have time to prepare for the first coaching day. We are expecting our first year's class to be full. Don't hesitate - go online and sign up today. The next opportunity to participate will not be for another year. Registration for the 2018 sessions is now open.
